The means
I've been reading East of Eden again, and a lot has stuck out at me this time around. Like when a character comments on the impatience of mankind, and how Satan doesn't have to do that much for us to get into trouble. All he has to do is dangle an end in front of our nose, and we do all the grunt work by screwing up the means to that end. We want the end now, right now. We fall because we don't want to wait. We want love, money, acceptance, pleasure - now, right now. Not later. And those impatient desires get the best of us, while Satan can just sit back and enjoy the show.
