The last time I wrote, I was pretty hungry for fall. Colorado gave me a taste of it, and now I'm more impatient than ever.

And now it's back to the work routine, so it'll take a few days for me to talk about everything we did on our trip. From the scenic drives to the awesome food, Colorado was definitely a worthwhile destination for my precious last days of vacation time.

Day One
We arrived in the morning, picked up our rental car and checked into the hotel. Minutes later we headed out for lunch in the Cherry Creek shopping district. We saw Canyon Cafe, a restaurant that we'd visited in Kansas City a few years ago, and thought it'd be fun to try it again. The one thing I remember about this place is the spread that comes with the homemade breadsticks. I think it's whipped cream cheese infused with garlic and chipotle.

After that, we hopped in the car and drove to Golden. Though neither of us really have a taste for beer, we love factory tours, so we decided to visit the Coors Brewery. The tour took 45 minutes, and we got to see most of the brewing process in action. Really amazing. We often think of ourselves as advanced intellectual creatures of the 21st century. But when you realize that people understood beermaking 1000s of years ago, you don't feel so smart. What a craft.

For the rest of the evening, we drove around town, visited some local shops, then decided to eat dinner at a highly-recommended Chinese restaurant called Imperial. Great reviews by Zagat in 2000, and voted Best Chinese Restaurant for 13 consecutive years by Denver Post readers. It was quite good.

Speaking of dining out, he're an interesting tidbit. Drought has hit Colorado pretty hard this year. Their reservoirs are at 43% capacity. So restaurants won't serve a glass of water unless you ask for it. I wish they'd do that everywhere. It peeves me when they serve water in addition to your beverage, because most people never even touch it. Such a waste. And the only reason they do it is so that they don't have to worry so much about refilling your beverage. Which reminds me of another annoyance - servers who bring you a new beverage when you've only had 3 or 4 sips of your first one. You hate to waste it, so you chug your first one, but even by then the 2nd one is flat. It's even worse when they fail to pick up the empties. One time there were 6 of us at a table, and we all had water plus our beverages - 12 glasses total. The waitress brought new ones, never picking up the used ones, so we had around 24 glasses crowding our table. Way gross.
