Day Two
We packed up the car and drove to Estes Park, where we entered Rocky Mountain National Park. We drove for an hour up an unpaved, winding mountain road without guardrails. The views were humbling and inspiring. We saw a moose, some bighorn sheep and a chipmunk.

At the top of Fall River Road was the Alpine Visitors Center, about 12,000 feet in elevation. The Alpine tundra made me feel as if I were on a completely different planet. Scrubby bits of grass and the occasional flower survive in the extreme weather, which can get to -40 F in the winter, with wind gusts up to 100mph.

After that, we drove down the Trail Ridge Road, the nation's highest continuously paved highway. We were on top of the world...ok, so it's not Everest, but it was still awesome.

Once we were back in Denver we went to Rubio's for some fish tacos. Rubio's is one of the many aspects of SoCal that my hubby misses. So it was nice to have that treat at the end of the day.

On a current note, I've been fighting some severe allergies for the last week. Work has slowed down considerably, so I'm grateful for that.
