greetings from not so sunny cali
Many thanks to Matt for taking us to the airport in the wee hours this morning! We got through DFW security without a hitch.
Our layover in Phoenix didn't go so well. We got there a few minutes late so we rushed to the other side of the terminal for our connection. After about 5 minutes, they said there was a gate change. Back to the other end of the terminal we went.
This is where it gets fun. They overbooked the flight, so they were looking for volunteers to give up their seat and take a later flight. The offer wasn't that great - only a $200 voucher for a future ticket. Volunteers came, but we still boarded an hour late.
We got off the plane in Long Beach and it was in the 50s and drizzling. I like coming into Long Beach because it's a tiny airport. You get to exit the plane onto the tarmac. An inconvenience, yes, but it always reminds me of Gerald Ford and all the times he stumbled down the stairs.
When we walked through the airport to the baggage claim area, someone called out my name and ran up to me. It was my friend, Jared, who moved to Orange County a few years ago. We had a few minutes to talk and it was fun to catch up. It turns out that he was about to get on the same plane to go home (Fort Worth) for the holidays. What a fun surprise it was to see an old friend.
Anyway, we're here, we're safe, and we're looking forward to tomorrow. I think the weather will be nicer, so maybe we'll head to the beach.
This afternoon I went shopping with Kevin's mom, and I think Kevin is out with his friend, Danny. Tonight we're going to Islands for dinner. I'm really looking forward to their teriyaki chicken soft tacos. Yum...
Ok, if this post is jumping from topic to topic, it's because I went to bed at about 1:30am and we woke up at 4:00. It's now 4:30 in California, 6:30 Texas time, so I'm pretty loopy. Hopefully I'll be more coherent tomorrow.
