who'd have thought
I'd better preface this post with a little back history.
I've never seen a movie that was as good as its literary predecessor. That is, they're never as good as the book. So for the last 3 years I've abstained from reading the LOTR trilogy. I didn't want to be critical when I saw the movies. I just wanted to enjoy them.
So I was probably the only fan in the world who didn't know how the story was going to end. Until this morning.
(If you don't know how it ends, you should probably quit reading now.)
I was watching Good Morning America before I went to work, and Elijah Wood was on. Charles Gibson asked him a silly question. He asked Elijah if he thought that Peter Jackson would ever make another movie in the series - not the Hobbit, but another movie altogether. (gag) And Elijah said, "Well, at the end of the story Frodo goes to the undying lands, so he's basically dead, so I don't know..."
Thanks.
I mean, I expected that he'd meet an ending like that, but I still like to have a sense of uncertainty and anticipation when I walk into the theater. To have that hope that maybe something like that wouldn't happen.
Who'd have thought that Frodo, of all people, would ruin the ending for me.
But I'm sure I'll still enjoy it. Only 28 hours and 15 minutes till tomorrow night's showing.
